Grandma was very surprised when Jane showed her the pictures. In one of them, Grandma was visiting the Pyramids in Egypt. In another, Grandma was standing by the Statue of Liberty in New York. In a third picture, Grandma was on the Great Wall of China. She was even at the Sydney Opera House in Australia. In the last one, she was standing in front of Big Ben in England.

receive/rɪ'siːv/ v. receive; receive

eg: Did you receive my presents on your birthday?

receive sth. from sb. means "to receive something from someone."

eg: He received an award for bravery from the police service.

He was honored by the police department for his bravery.

Analysis: receive and accept

Receive means to receive something from someone else. It does not contain the meaning of whether the recipient is willing to accept it. It is an objective "receipt".

She received a letter from her father.

She received a letter from her father.

Accept emphasizes willingness to accept, which is subjective "acceptance".

I can’t accept an excuse like that.
