First and Second Revolution

1. "Song Jiaoren Case"

In 1912, the Kuomintang led by Song Jiaoren took a clear advantage in the first congressional election, which alarmed Yuan Shikai. In the spring of 1913, Song Jiaoren, who was preparing to go north to form a cabinet, was assassinated at the Shanghai Railway Station. After investigation, the case involved Yuan Shikai himself.

2. The second revolution

Time 1913

After the "Song Case", Yuan Shikai decided to use force to suppress the Kuomintang, ordered the removal of the governors of Jiangxi, Guangdong, and Anhui provinces held by the Kuomintang, and sent troops south. Sun Yat-sen, Huang Xing and others called on the southern provinces to rise up against Yuan and launch a "second revolution".

As a result, due to the dispersion of the Kuomintang's power, the second revolution was quickly suppressed by Yuan Shikai. Sun Yat-sen and Huang Xing were forced to go into exile in Japan.

2. Outbreak At the end of 1915, Cai E, Li Liejun, and Tang Jiyao declared independence in Yunnan, organized the National Defense Army to go north to fight against Yuan, and the National Defense War broke out.

3. After the Beiyang army was disorganized and retreating, many provinces declared independence and broke away from Yuan Shikai's government.

4. Results In March 1916, Yuan Shikai was forced to announce the abolition of the imperial system and died in despair in June. The War to Protect the Country is over.
