1. Battle of Taierzhuang
Think about it: What was Japan’s intention in attacking Taierzhuang?
Part of the Japanese troops who landed on the Shandong Peninsula joined forces with the Japanese troops heading south from Jinpu to Taierzhuang, and jointly attacked Xuzhou, a strategic military location, thereby opening up the north-south battlefield.
Overview
Time March 1938
Location Taierzhuang, Shandong
Command: Fifth Theater Commander Li Zongren
Annihilate the enemy. Annihilate more than 10,000 Japanese troops.
Impact: China's largest frontal battlefield victory since the Anti-Japanese War inspired the spirit of the Chinese military and civilians and strengthened their will and belief in the war of resistance.
2. Defend Wuhan
Japan
The Japanese base camp believed that "as long as Hankou and Guangzhou are captured, China can be dominated." Therefore, the Japanese Imperial Council decided to launch the Battle of Wuhan and quickly capture Wuhan to force the Chinese government to surrender.
Chinese government
The fall of Wuhan was expected to cause China to cease its resistance. Our party proposed before the Xuzhou Battle to send Zhou Enlai, Dong Biwu, Ye Jianying, Bo Gu and other leading cadres to Wuhan.
In June 1938, the Japanese army assembled more than 400,000 troops to attack Wuhan. In order to defend Wuhan, the Chinese army deployed more than 1 million people to participate in the war. The Chinese army took advantage of the powerful terrain of the Dabie Mountains, Poyang Lake and the west bank of the Yangtze River to resist the enemy.
Great victory at Wanjialing
On October 7, 1938, the Xueyue Corps of the Nationalist Government annihilated more than 9,000 enemy troops in Wanjialing, Jiangxi Province, and achieved a great victory in Wanjialing.
During the Wuhan Battle, the Chinese Air Force and Navy also actively participated in the battle. With the cooperation of the Soviet Aviation Volunteer Brigade, the Chinese Air Force fought fiercely in the sky, engaging in 7 air battles with the Japanese aviation force, destroying 78 Japanese aircraft and sinking 23 Japanese ships, effectively supporting the operations of the ground forces. The Chinese navy also fought bravely, sinking and damaging more than 50 Japanese warships and transport vessels, and shooting down more than 10 Japanese aircraft. However, it also suffered heavy losses and was basically wiped out.
3. The Third Battle of Changsha
Time December 1941
Background The Anti-Japanese War entered a stalemate stage; in the first two battles of Changsha, the Japanese army did not occupy Changsha.
Passing under Changsha City, the Chinese army fought fiercely with the Japanese army and fought back the enemy who came to rescue them. Under the fighting of the Chinese army, a large number of Japanese troops were annihilated, and the Chinese army won the battle.
Significance The Third Battle of Changsha was the Allies' only victory in the Asian theater since the Pearl Harbor Incident and the Allies' first major military victory since the outbreak of the Pacific War.
Battle of Henan, Hunan and Guangxi
In early 1944, the Japanese army launched the Battle of Henan, Hunan and Guangxi. Due to the Kuomintang government's policy of passive resistance to Japan and active anti-communism in the late period of the Anti-Japanese War, the Kuomintang army was routed thousands of miles away and lost most of Henan, Hunan, Guangxi and other provinces and part of Guizhou Province.
