1.2 History of India

India is an ancient civilization with a history of more than 4,000 years. Ancient Indians developed agriculture, built cities, and created a splendid culture in the Indus and Ganges river basins. In the 18th century, India became a British colony. India finally got rid of British colonial rule in 1947, declared independence, and established a republic in 1950.

2.2 Population pressure on India’s resources, environment and economic development

As of 0:00 on March 1, 2001, India's total population was 1.027 billion, accounting for 16.07% of the world's total population, becoming the second country in the world with a population of more than 1 billion, and growing at a rate of 20 million per year. According to projections by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, by 2018 or 2020, India's population will surpass China's and become the world's most populous country.

Since the 1970s, the Indian government has begun to implement family planning policies, but it has only achieved certain results in cities. On February 15, 2000, India issued a new population policy, hoping to achieve zero population growth by 2045.

3.1 Climate
