Creative background

Lyricist: Peng Bangzhen (1919-2002), a famous Hubei-born Taiwanese poet living in the United States.

He began to write poetry when he was fifteen years old, and became famous as a poet in his hometown of Huangpi County when he was a boy. In 1939, he was admitted to the Chengdu Military Academy and served as a second lieutenant platoon leader in Chongqing after graduation. (1944) At the age of twenty-five, he went on an expedition to India with the Youth Army.

The origin of "Hometown of the Moon": It was Christmas night in 1977. The Pengs were invited to spend Christmas at a friend's house in the countryside of New York. When they passed by a lake on Long Island on their way back, a bright moon appeared in the lake. Peng Bangzhen saw this and felt very strange. He quickly asked his wife to stop the car and go out to take a look. When they opened the car door and looked up, it turned out to be a bright moon hanging in the sky. Suddenly, "a moon in the sky" and "a moon in the water" aroused the poet's reverie. When he went back and looked at the calendar, he realized that that day happened to be the fifteenth day of the lunar calendar, and of course the full moon was shining brightly. The poet's nostalgia comes to mind: thinking about how he has traveled all over the world these years, always celebrating festivals for others. Today, the 15th month of the lunar calendar is full, but my hometown and I are far apart. How can it be so heartbreaking! Why can't I have my own holiday? This situation aroused the poet's poetry. So, he held the writing brush thoughtfully, while his wife spread out the rice paper for him. He sang a line, and the wife sang a line. The couple recited the worried verse to the moon: After writing the song, excitement flowed from their eyes. tears......

Peng Bangzhen's favorite song quickly spread like wildfire after it was published in "Chinese Literature and Art" and became a song in the hearts of overseas Chinese to express their homesickness, nostalgia, and nostalgia.

In June 1980, Beijing composers Yan Sheng and Liu Zhuang composed the music and published it in "Song". On the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival in 1983, at the Mid-Autumn Festival Gala held by China Central Television, the famous film art performer Mr. Xiang first recited Peng Bangzhen's poems "Hometown of the Moon" and "Song of the Nightingale", and then the famous baritone sang. Artist Liu Bingyi sang "Hometown of the Moon" composed by the poem.
