Description
"Research on Carbon Dioxide Production" Carbon and Carbon Oxides PPT Courseware 3
1. Explore the reaction principle of producing carbon dioxide
Explore information:
Compounds containing carbonate ions (CO32-) (for example: sodium carbonate Na2CO3, marble or limestone whose main component is CaCO3) can react with hydrochloric acid (HCl) or dilute sulfuric acid (H2SO4) to generate CO2.
The principle is: CaCO3+2HCl=CaCl2+H2O+CO2↑
CaCO3+H2SO4=CaSO4+H2O+CO2↑
Na2CO3+2HCl=2NaCl+H2O+CO2↑
CaCl2 and NaCl are easily soluble in water, and CaSO4 is slightly soluble in water.
Raw materials for producing carbon dioxide in the laboratory: limestone (marble) and dilute hydrochloric acid
Reaction principle: CaCO3+2HCl=CaCl2+H2O+CO2↑
1. Why not use concentrated hydrochloric acid instead of dilute hydrochloric acid to react with limestone?
Concentrated hydrochloric acid is volatile, and the volatilized hydrogen chloride gas is mixed into the produced carbon dioxide gas, resulting in impure carbon dioxide.
2. Why doesn’t the laboratory react with calcium carbonate powder (or sodium carbonate) and dilute hydrochloric acid to produce CO2?
Calcium carbonate powder reacts too quickly with dilute hydrochloric acid and is not conducive to collection.
3. Why not use sulfuric acid instead of hydrochloric acid to react with limestone to produce CO2?
Because sulfuric acid reacts with calcium carbonate to form slightly water-soluble calcium sulfate, which adheres to the surface of the limestone and prevents the reaction from continuing.
The reaction principle of producing carbon dioxide: CaCO3+2HCl=CaCl2+H2O+CO2↑
4. The reaction rate is moderate and easy to collect. The reaction at room temperature saves energy. The raw materials are cheap and easy to obtain. It is suitable for laboratory preparation of CO2.
Thoughts and discussions:
1. What parts does the preparation device consist of?
2. What factors should be considered when determining the gas generating device?
3. What factors should be considered when determining the gas collection device?
2. Determination of laboratory preparation equipment
gas generating device
Reactant state
solid and liquid reactions
solids and solid reactions
liquids and liquid reactions
Reaction conditions: whether heating or catalyst is required
Gas collection device
Air exhaust method
Denser than air: use upward air exhaust method
Density is smaller than air: use downward air exhaust method
Difficult to drain or not easily soluble in water, nor does it react with water
The reaction principle of producing carbon dioxide: CaCO3+2HCl=CaCl2+H2O+CO2↑
[Talk about gains and learn new knowledge]

2. Whenever solid and liquid react to produce gas at normal temperature, the generating device can be ( ) device.
3. If liquid and liquid react to produce gas at normal temperature, the generating device can be ( ) device;
[Expand your thinking]
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a gas that is denser than air and soluble in water. In the laboratory, hydrogen sulfide is commonly produced by reacting bulk solid ferrous sulfide (FeS) with dilute sulfuric acid. The generating device for producing hydrogen sulfide in the laboratory is ______, collection device______.
