"Exploration—The Relationship between Current, Voltage, and Resistance" Ohm's Law PPT courseware

learning target

1. Know why it is necessary to study the quantitative relationship between current, voltage and resistance.

2. Be familiar with the process of exploring "the relationship between current, voltage and resistance passing through a conductor".

3. Able to analyze experimental data to obtain the relationship between current, voltage and resistance.

4. Remember the content, expressions and formula deformations of Ohm's law, and be able to perform simple calculations of current, voltage and resistance.

think

(1) What are the methods to change the brightness of a light bulb?

(2) If the brightness of the light bulb changes, it means that the current passing through the light bulb has changed. Does the voltage applied to both ends of the light bulb also change?

Ask a question

What factors might influence the current through a conductor?

conjectures and assumptions

(1) What is the relationship between the current passing through a conductor and the voltage across the conductor?

Guess: The greater the voltage across a conductor, the greater the current in the conductor.

(2) What is the relationship between the current passing through a conductor and the resistance of the conductor?

Guess: The smaller the resistance of the conductor, the greater the current in the conductor.

Design and conduct experiments

Discuss

1. What method should be used to explore the impact of changes in voltage and resistance on current?

Control Variable

2. How to study the effect of voltage on current?

Keep the resistance R constant and see how the current changes when the voltage is changed.

3. How to study the effect of resistance on current?

Keep the voltage U constant and see how the current changes after changing the resistance.

Activity 1: Explore the relationship between current and voltage

1. What should we do to explore the relationship between current and voltage?

You can keep _____ unchanged, change ______________, and see how the current changes.

2. Draw the circuit diagram of your design

3. What instruments will be used in the designed experiment?

Power supply, switch, sliding rheostat, fixed value resistor, voltmeter, ammeter, wire

The function of the sliding rheostat is to change the voltage across the resistor R

4. Issues that should be paid attention to when connecting circuits

(1) The switch should be in _______ state;

(2) The sliding blade of the sliding rheostat is at the resistance position ____;

(3) Identify the _____ terminals of the voltmeter and ammeter;

(4) The ______ selection of voltmeter and ammeter must be correct;

Activity 2: Explore the relationship between current and resistance

1. What should we do to study the relationship between current and resistance?

You can keep _____ unchanged, change___________, and see how the current changes.

2. Circuit diagram

Ohm's law

The current in a conductor is directly proportional to the voltage across the conductor and inversely proportional to the resistance of the conductor.

practise

Exercise 1. When a voltage of 6V is applied to both ends of a conductor, the current through the conductor is 2A. When the voltage becomes 3V, the current through the conductor is __A

Exercise 2. Complete the following table according to Ohm’s law

Exercise 3. When the voltage across a conductor is 2V, the current passing through the conductor is 500mA, and the resistance of the conductor is _____Ω. After the power supply is cut off, the voltage across the conductor is zero, and the resistance of the conductor at this time is _______Ω.

think about it

R=U/I is similar to I=U/R. Can we think that resistance is directly proportional to voltage and inversely proportional to current?

The resistance of a conductor is an inherent property of the conductor itself. The size of the conductor resistance is determined by the length, cross-sectional area and material of the conductor. When the voltage across the resistor changes, the current passing through it also changes in proportion to the voltage. The current ratio (i.e. resistance) remains unchanged and is a fixed value (it can be seen that the size of the resistance is equal to the ratio of voltage and current), so resistance has nothing to do with voltage and current, and there is no direct or inverse relationship. Therefore, R=U/I can only be used to calculate the size of the resistance, but cannot be used as the definition of resistance.

summary

1. What is the content of Ohm’s law?

2. What is the expression of Ohm’s law? What are the transformation formulas?

3. What kind of research methods did we mainly use in this lesson?
