Description
"Atmospheric Pressure" Pressure PPT Courseware 2
1. The existence of atmospheric pressure
1. The first experiment to verify the existence of atmospheric pressure
Magdeburg Hemisphere Experiment
2. The Magdeburg Hemisphere Experiment illustrates:
1) The existence of atmospheric pressure
2) The atmospheric pressure is very strong
The atmosphere can produce such great pressure, but people living in the atmosphere are fine?
Because there is air pressure inside a person, the internal and external air pressure is balanced!
2. Atmospheric pressure
1. Definition: The pressure inside the air in all directions is called atmospheric pressure, referred to as atmospheric pressure or air pressure.
2. Feeling examples
Feeling Example 1 (Swallowing Eggs from a Bottle)
When the cotton burns for a period of time, the air in the bottle will decrease and the air pressure will decrease. The atmospheric pressure acting on the outside of the egg will press the egg into the bottle.
3. Measurement of atmospheric pressure
In the cup-covering experiment, if the maximum height at which atmospheric pressure can hold up a water column can be found, then the pressure generated by the water column is equal to the atmospheric pressure.
1. The first person to measure atmospheric pressure was Italian scientist Torricelli (Torricelli experiment)
2. The Torricelli experiment was the first experiment to measure the value of atmospheric pressure. This experiment measured the height of the mercury column to be 760mm. We call the atmospheric pressure of this size the standard atmospheric pressure.
4. Changes in atmospheric pressure
Hold a homemade barometer from downstairs to upstairs and observe the changes in the height of the water column in the glass tube.
1. Atmospheric pressure decreases as altitude increases.
2. The law of changes in atmospheric pressure: Within an altitude of 3000 m, for every 10 m of elevation, the atmospheric pressure decreases by approximately 100 Pa.
3. The air pressure is high in sunny weather. The air pressure is low in rainy weather. The air pressure is low in summer and high in winter.
Winter is dry and cold, the air density is greater than in summer, and the water vapor content is less than in summer, so the oxygen concentration is higher than in summer. Therefore, the air pressure in winter is higher than that in summer; the water vapor content in the air on sunny days is much less than that on cloudy days, and the relative oxygen concentration is high, so the air pressure is higher than on cloudy days.
The relationship between gas pressure and volume
Under the condition that the temperature remains constant, the pressure of a certain mass of gas increases as its volume decreases, and its pressure decreases as its volume increases.

Consolidate practice
1. The famous experiment to measure the atmospheric pressure is the __________ experiment. The atmospheric pressure is about __________ Pa.
2. If water is used to perform the Torricelli experiment, there is a vacuum above the tube, and the atmospheric pressure can support a water column about _________ meters high.
3. When using a fountain pen to absorb ink, just press and release the spring leaf a few times, and the ink will be absorbed into the rubber tube. This is because ( )
A The rubber tube has suction B The spring leaf has suction
C The effect of atmospheric pressure D The vacuum in the rubber tube has suction
4. The first scientist to measure atmospheric pressure ( )
A Galileo B Newton
C Torricelli D Otto Grik
