When the weather clears after the rain, sometimes there will be a beautiful rainbow hanging in the sky, which is very magnificent. How are rainbows produced?

1. Dispersion:

Sunlight (white light), after passing through a prism, is decomposed into light of various colors. This phenomenon is called dispersion of light.

2. Mixing of colors and lights

Red, green, and blue are called the three primary colors of light. Different colors can be mixed by using these three kinds of light.

Various colors of light are mixed from three colors of red, green and blue.

3. Invisible light

Sunlight has energy, so the reading on the thermometer will rise when exposed to sunlight.

The thermometer's reading will also rise outside of red light, indicating that there is a kind of light we can't see besides red light, which we call infrared.

Two characteristics of infrared:

1. The main characteristic of infrared rays is its strong thermal effect.

2. Infrared rays have a relatively strong ability to penetrate clouds and fog.

UV applications:

3. Ultraviolet rays help the body synthesize vitamin D and promote calcium absorption.

4. Excessive ultraviolet rays can cause skin cancer and affect the survival of animals, plants and humans. The main function of sunscreen is to reflect UV rays.
