Part One: Soil

What is soil?

Soil is composed of three types of substances: solid, liquid and gas. Solid matter includes soil minerals, organic matter and microorganisms. Liquid material mainly refers to soil moisture. Gas is the air present in the pores of the soil.

Soil formation:

Rocks are weathered and broken, and their physical and chemical properties are changed, forming a loose weathering crust, the upper part of which can be called soil parent material. If the weathering crust remains in place and forms residual material, it is called residual parent material.

Good soil:

Refers to soil with moderate amounts of clay, silt, and sand in its particle composition. The texture is between clay and sand, and it has the advantages of both clay and sand. It is a soil with good air permeability, water retention and heat preservation properties.

Small experiment:
