Coal is formed through long-term geological processes after layers of ancient plant remains were buried underground.

According to research, almost all plant remains can be converted into coal as long as they meet the conditions for coal formation. However, coal formed from the remains of lower plants has a small distribution range and thin thickness, and is rarely used by people. Those coals that are widely distributed, large-scale and widely used are formed from the remains of higher plants (mainly the remains of ancient ferns, conifers and some angiosperms).
