Description
"Understanding Several Common Rocks" Rocks and Minerals PPT Courseware 2
In the last class, we held an exhibition for rocks. We found that some rocks felt rough to the touch, some smelled a bit, and some were heavier when weighed.
Shale, sandstone, limestone, conglomerate, marble, granite and other rocks are our common rocks, and they are widely used in production and life.
Have we heard of these rocks? What are the characteristics of these rocks?
Sedimentary rock (sedimentary rock) is a type of rock that forms less deeply at or near the surface of the earth. It is a rock formed by weathering products, volcanic materials, organic matter and other clastic materials after being transported, deposited and petrified under normal temperatures and pressures.
Igneous rock (igneous rock) is a rock formed by molten magma deep in the earth's crust or in the upper mantle. It invades the upper part of the earth's crust or erupts to the surface, cools and solidifies, and undergoes crystallization.
Common magmatic rocks include granite, andesite and basalt. Generally speaking, igneous rocks tend to appear in volcanic areas at the junction of plates.
granite
Granite is a plutonic acidic igneous rock. The silica content is mostly above 70%. The color is lighter, with grayish-white and flesh-red being common. It is mainly composed of dark minerals such as quartz, feldspar and a small amount of biotite.
Granite has a uniform structure and a hard texture.
Granite is not easily weathered, has a beautiful color, and can maintain its appearance for more than a hundred years. Due to its high hardness and wear resistance, in addition to being used in high-end architectural decoration projects and hall floors, it is also the preferred material for open-air carvings.
Find a home for rocks
The size and structure of rock particles are also important features for identifying rock types. Can we try to identify rock types based on the particle conditions of different rocks?
Fine particles, layered structure, crisp sound after knocking marble
Coarse or medium grained, loose structure slate
Coarse or medium grained, compact structure, different colors, hard shale
Granite has coarse or medium grains, tight structure, crystal clear, and some textured granite
Fine particles, layered structure, no banging sound after knocking sandstone
Why are these rocks different?
Please read the 81-page database "The Origin and Classification of Rocks" below to understand the reasons for the formation of different types of rocks due to changes in earth motion.
