2. Pronunciation—The difference in pronunciation between British English and American English
The difference in pronunciation between British English and American English is mainly reflected in the different pronunciations of the vowels a, o and the consonant r.
(1) In words like ask, can't, dance, fast, half, and path, the British pronounce the letter a as /aː/, while the Americans pronounce it as /æ/, so these words are pronounced in the United States. The spoken words become /æsk/, /kænt/, /dæns/, /fæst/, /hæf/ and /pæθ/.
