Writing a PoemPPT, Part 3: Interpretation of the textbook

1.Which do you prefer to write, poems or stories?

Prefer is a verb, meaning "prefer, prefer", which is equivalent to like...better. Generally not used in the progressive tense. Common usage is as follows:

(1) prefer sth. means "prefer something".

(2) prefer to do sth. means "prefer to do something".

(3) prefer(doing)A to(doing)B means "I prefer (doing) A to (doing) B", where to is a preposition.

(4) prefer to do A rather than do B means "prefer to do A rather than do B".

Infinitives are often added as objects after the following verbs: want, hope, wish, like, begin, start, try, agree, learn, promise, refuse, decide, etc.

Many different kinds of means "many different kinds of...".

4.At the beginning I was afraid to try writing a poem.

◆at the beginning means "at the beginning, at the beginning". at can also be replaced by in. When followed by the phrase of, you can only use at the beginning.
