I like playing basketball and I'm a lot taller this year.

Much can modify the comparative form, meaning "... much", which is equivalent to a lot.

eg: He is much/ a lot stronger than his little brother.

He is much stronger than his brother.

[Extension] Add a little or a bit before the comparative form to mean "...a little bit".

eg: Kate is a little/ bit taller than Mary. Kate is a little taller than Mary.

◆She works for the newspaper and gives advice to people.

She works at a newspaper and gives people advice.

(1) work for means "to work for...".

eg: She doesn't want to work for the company. She doesn't want to work for that company.

(2)give advice to sb. Give advice to someone, advise someone

[Expand] ask for advice, solicit opinions and suggestions;

ask sb.for advice ask someone for advice or suggestions
