be (is, am are) + v-ing indicates an action that is happening or in progress, and is the present continuous tense.

structure:

Declarative sentence: subject + be + doing.

Negative sentence: subject + be + not + doing.

General questions: be+subject+doing?

The rules for changing present participle: verb + ing

1. Generally, ing is added at the end of the original form of the verb.

eg. work -----working

2. For verbs ending with the silent letter e, first remove the e and add ing.

eg. take-----taking

3. In a stressed closed syllable, if there is only one consonant at the end, double the consonant first and then add ing.

eg. put----putting
