can /kæn/ aux. Can; can
Usage: can is a modal verb, which has a certain meaning but cannot exist independently. It must be combined with the following verb prototype to form the predicate of the sentence. The modal verb can does not have person or number conjugations.
1. Affirmative sentence structure: subject + can + verb base + other.
2. Negative sentence structure: subject + can’t + verb base + other.
3. Interrogative sentence structure: Can + subject + verb base form + others?
