"Online tours" PPT, part two: voice classification

English verbs have two voices, active voice and passive voice. Active voice indicates that the subject is the performer of the action, such as:

They built a new bridge over the river.

Passive voice indicates that the subject is the recipient of the action, such as:

A new bridge was built over the river.

When the subject is the performer of the action, the following verb uses the active voice; when the subject is the recipient of the action, the subsequent verb uses the passive voice. The active participle of English verbs is unmarked, while the passive participle is marked, usually composed of the auxiliary verb be + the past participle of the transitive verb.

"Online tours" PPT, the fifth part: Conclusion:

1. Change active voice into passive voice

Change the object of the active voice into the subject of the passive voice, and use the nominative case to change the predicate into a passive structure. Pay attention to the tense of be and the original sentence to be consistent. Put the subject in the active voice as the object after the preposition by, and change the nominative case into the object case.

2. Steps to change a passive sentence into an active sentence:

1) Find the executor of the action (usually the object of the passive sentence) as the subject of the active sentence.

2) Find the structure of be + past participle and restore it to the prototype of the transitive verb.

3) Find the recipient of the action (usually the subject of the passive sentence) and use it as the object of the active sentence.

4) Determine the tense of transitive verbs. Number (note) In the above conversion, the pronoun used as the subject uses the nominative case, and the pronoun used as the object uses the accusative case.
