The difference between past tense and present perfect tense:

concept:

The past tense expresses a verb or a state of existence that occurred at a certain time in the past, or an action that occurred frequently or repeatedly in the past.

e.g. He came here yesterday.

The present perfect tense expresses the impact and results of past actions (or states) on the present

e.g. He has broken his bottle.

1) Different composition

Tom went to London last year.

Lily has been to London twice.

Use the past tense for predicate verbs in the simple past tense.

The predicate in the present perfect tense uses "auxiliary verb have /has + past participle"

2) Different usage: the present perfect tense expresses the connection between past actions and the present, mainly describing the current situation and status; while the simple past tense emphasizes that the action occurred at a certain time in the past and has no connection with the present. e.g.

1.We haven’t seen him since last year.

We haven't seen him since last year. (Not seen yet)

2.We didn’t see him last year.

We didn't see him last year. (You may not have seen it now)
