Grammar

present perfect tense

The predicates of the above sentences have a common feature, which is that they are composed of "have/has+verb past participle". We call this tense "present perfect tense". The present perfect tense indicates that actions that have occurred at a certain time in the past or things that have been done have some impact on the present, for example:

Betty has been to the park before. (Emphasis on not only been to the park, but also understanding the conditions of the park)

Present perfect tense predicate structure:

have/have not (haven’t) + past participle of verb

Present perfect third person singular predicate structure:

has/has not (hasn’t)+ past participle of verb

The rules for forming the past participle of regular verbs are the same as the rules for forming the past tense of regular verbs.

1. Verbs usually have "-ed" added to the end of the word.

e.g. work → worked → worked

2. For verbs ending in "e", add "-d" to the end of the word.

e.g. live → lived → lived

3. For verbs ending in "consonant + y", change "y" to "i" and add "-ed".

e.g. study → studied → studied

cry →cried → cried

4. It ends with a stressed closed syllable and only one consonant at the end. Double-write the consonant first and then add "-ed".

e.g. stop → stopped → stopped

drop → dropped → dropped
