Find the similar terms in the polynomial 8a+2b+(5a-b) and think about how to combine similar terms.

Analysis: 8a and 5a are similar items, and 2b and -b are similar items. Since 5a and -b are in parentheses, the parentheses must be removed first before similar terms can be combined.

In order to find out the rule of bracket removal, let’s first look at the calculation of a set of formulas:

13+(7-5)=13+2=15,

13+7-5=20-5=15;

9a＋（6a－a）= 9a＋5a=14a，

9a + 6a-a=15a-a=14a

Let’s look at the calculation of the following set of formulas:

13-(7-5)=13-2=11,

13-7+5=6+5=11;

9a-(6a-a)=9a-5a=4a,

9a - 6a＋a=3a ＋a=4a

Combining the above four equations we get:

①：13＋（7－5）= 13＋7－5

②: 9a + (6a-a) = 9a + 6a-a

③: 13-(7-5) = 13-7+5

④: 9a-(6a-a)=9a-6a+a

From the above formulas ① and ②:

①：13＋（7－5）= 13＋7－5

②：9a＋（6a－a）=9a＋6a－a

We get: there is a "+" sign before the bracket. Remove the bracket and the "+" sign before it, and the symbols of the items in the brackets will remain unchanged.

From the above formulas ③ and ④:

③: 13-(7-5) = 13-7+5

④: 9a-(6a-a)=9a-6a+a

We get: there is a "-" sign before the bracket. Remove the bracket and the "-" sign in front of it, and the sign of each item in the bracket will change.
