Rotate rectangle ABCD to generate the two cylinders on the right. Tell us which side of the rectangle they are rotated around, and what are the base radius and height.

Please think about it first. If rectangle ABCD is rotated with side AB as the axis, which cylinder will it form? Please give it a try.

(2) Solve problems

1. A cylindrical tea bucket has a trademark paper on the side. The radius of the bottom of the cylinder is 5cm and the height is 20cm. This trademark paper unfolds into a rectangle. What are its length and width in centimeters?

Please think about the relationship between the length of the rectangle and the base of the cylinder? What is the width of the rectangle?

2. Which of the following figures are expanded views of a cylinder (unit: cm)?

Answer: (1) Yes. Because the circumference of the circle is 2×3.14=6.28 (cm), which is equal to the length of the rectangle, it is an expanded view of the cylinder.

(2) No. Because the circumference of the circle is 4×3.14=12.56 (cm), and the length of the rectangle is 20cm, the length of the rectangle is longer than the circumference of the circle, so it is not an expanded view of a cylinder.

(3) No. Because the length of the rectangle is equal to the diameter of the circle, it is not an expanded view of a cylinder.
