Part One Content: New Course Reading Assistance
"Border Town" is the representative work of Shen Congwen's novels and an excellent novella expressing local feelings in the history of Chinese literature. The novel is set in Chadong, a border town at the junction of Sichuan and Hunan in the 1930s. It depicts the unique customs and customs of western Hunan with beautiful writing style that combines lyric poetry and essay style. It also highlights the love tragedy of the boatman girl Cuicui. The kindness and beauty of human nature and the clarity and purity of the soul. The story of the book is as follows:
In the beautiful western Hunan, there is a mountain city called Chadong. There is a place in Chadong called Bixi, and there is an innocent and beautiful girl Cuicui at the ferry. Because her parents died in love at an early age, Cuicui had to depend on her grandfather and rely on people to ferry people around. Tianbao and Nuosong, the two sons of the captain of the shipowner at Zhangshui Wharf, both fell in love with Cuicui. The two brothers talked to each other about their concerns and met to sing in accordance with the ancient custom. Whoever can impress Cuicui and get a response will win love. Tianbao was not good at singing, but he also understood the truth about Cuicui's admiration for Nuosong, so he decided to go out to the beach. This "water duck" was actually bounced into the water by the pennies and drowned. Nuo Sang was saddened by Tianbao's death, and was forced by his family to accept the dowry from the daughter of the Zhongzhai Wang Tuanzong, so he painfully took a boat to Taoyuan. The old boatman was deeply worried about his granddaughter's marriage, and coupled with the misunderstanding and cold treatment of the boat owner and his son, he died late at night during a thunderstorm. Cuicui continued to operate the ferry and waited for her sweetheart. However, "This person may never come back, maybe he will come back tomorrow." The text is excerpted from Chapters 3 to 6 of "Border Town".

Border Town PPT, the third part: segment comments
1. The most lively days of the year in the border town are the Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese New Year. The three festivals excited the local people thirty or fifty years ago. Until now, there has been no change. They are still the most meaningful days for the local residents.
Comments: ① Whether the folk customs are simple or not is inevitably related to whether the people pay attention to traditional festivals.
② "No change" and "still" imply the author's praise and yearning for the simple folk customs.
③The author's ideal is to express "a beautiful, healthy and not contrary to human nature of life" in the novel, and "to give an appropriate explanation of the word 'love' for human beings"; and the simplicity of the folk customs is "beautiful, healthy and not contrary to human nature" The social basis of a form of life that is not contrary to human nature.
2. Although the words were spoken softly, the man could hear Cuicui's age, and he could tell Cuicui's age from his voice, so he said with a smile: "Why, you are so young and you can curse! You don't want to go up. Stay here. If a big fish comes out and bites you, don't scream for help!"
Comments: ① Although he was scolded, Nuosong responded with a smile, which shows Nuosong's kindness, humor and thoughtfulness.
②The joke of "big fish bites you" was deeply imprinted in Cuicui's heart. From then on, the image of "fish" symbolizing love maintained the relationship between Nuosong and Cuicui.
③ Words similar to "The big fish bites you" appear repeatedly in the article. First, they echo before and after, making the storyline coherent and compact; second, they promote the development of the storyline through seemingly simple repetitions, making Cuicui's emotional tendency more clear; The third is to show the characters' personalities in the intricacies of providence and man-made, and to observe the inner activities of the characters, which is full of implicit beauty.
3. Grandfather and Cuicui stayed on the boat, their emotions seemed to be chasing the sound of the suona, and they walked a long way back to themselves.
Grandfather weighed the red paper envelope and said, "Cui Cui, the new bride in the Song family is only fifteen years old."
Comments: ① This is a detailed description, showing the thoughts that the wedding procession brings to the grandfather and Cuicui. It implies that the grandfather has begun to pay attention to his granddaughter's marriage, and Cuicui has also begun to think about getting married.
②The team welcoming the bride moved away, and both grandfather and Cuicui seemed to follow the sound of the suona. This is an exaggerated rhetorical technique, which vividly expresses the mood of the grandfather and grandson who have their own thoughts at the moment.
③ "Cui Cui, the new bride in the Song family is only fifteen years old." The meaning of the grandfather's words is very clear: Cui Cui has reached the age to get married. Grandfather used this sentence to test whether Cuicui was also thinking about her marriage. "Return only" expresses the grandfather's reluctance to let go of his granddaughter's upcoming marriage.
Border Town PPT, Part 4: Multidimensional Exploration
1. "Border Town" depicts the unique customs and customs of western Hunan. What kind of cultural connotation and the author's emotional attitude are reflected in this unique customs?
Tip: The Xiangxi described by the author has beautiful natural scenery and simple folk customs; people do not talk about hierarchy or utilitarianism, and they treat each other sincerely and are friendly to each other. The grandfather's love for his granddaughter and Cuicui's innocent love for Nuosong all represent the traditional virtues of unpolluted agricultural civilization. Border Town PPT, Part 5: Aesthetic Appreciation
Quiet and beautiful "border town" environment
Shen Congwen is known as the "genre painter" of modern China. His novels depict the beautiful scenery of the border town in western Hunan and create many vivid and vivid characters with a quiet and dilute style, the writing style of sketches and prose, and the artistic conception of poetry and music. His representative work "Border Town" fully reflects the main characteristics of his novel art.
The description of the natural environment in the novel not only shows us the fresh and beautiful natural scenery unique to the western Hunan frontier, but more importantly, it highlights the psychological activities of the characters and immerses the characters' emotions in a poetic and picturesque atmosphere. In the author's writing, the beautiful dusk, the silvery moonlight, the quiet river... the scenery is picturesque and too beautiful to behold. In addition to the tranquil and beautiful natural scenery, the novel also creates a harmonious and beautiful social environment, which is mainly reflected in the description of the social customs of the border towns. The excerpt focuses on the scene where officials, soldiers and people participated in or watched dragon boat racing and duck hunting during the Dragon Boat Festival. These customs have continued for many years, and "until now, there has been no change."
It is really simple, primitive and harmonious, and has not been polluted by modern society at all. In terms of human relations, the officials and the people, the soldiers and the people rejoiced together, and it was like a paradise; the eldest brother Shunshun and his family cared for Cuicui's grandparents; the transitional man who sold leather paper gave the old boatman money, but the old boatman didn't want it, and the two actually quarreled over it "Shunshun no longer goes into the water to catch ducks because his two sons can catch ducks. "But going into the water to save people is a different matter. Anyone who helps people stay away from trouble is entering the fire. Even when a person is eighty years old, he will still become a This person has an inescapable responsibility: simple, honest, transparent, not polluted by urban material civilization, simple and kind, as peaceful and beautiful as a dream.
Some people say that "Border Town" is a pastoral about life in a mountain village in western Hunan, a hymn of sincere and passionate love, a blank poem written in the form of a novel, and a colorless painting painted with ink. painting. Therefore, appreciating "Border Town" requires a unique perspective. If you just treat it as an ordinary novel, you will not be able to appreciate its interest.
