Couplets are also called couplets, couplets, couplets, etc., commonly known as pairs.

The couplets are written vertically and posted vertically. Above the middle, there is often a banner. The banner is also called horizontal batch or horizontal banner, which summarizes the idea of ​​the couplet (virtual amount) or specifies the location (real amount).

The couplet is composed of the upper couplet and the lower couplet. Its quantifier is "vice" and cannot be called "shou" or "tiao". The number of words in a couplet can be more or less, and there is no requirement for the number of words, but it is required to be neatly contrasted and balanced.

Antithesis is the duality of words and sentences. Its requirements are that the number of words is the same, the part of speech is the same, and the structure is the same; Ping and Ze refers to the flat and oblique tones. Generally speaking, the last character of the first couplet is in oblique tone, and the last character of the second couplet is in flat tone. Use this to judge the upper and lower lines.

Couplet exists, develops and is famous in the world as a unique and unique literary and artistic form. It has a history of more than a thousand years. It is a synthesis, evolution and variation of prose, fu, poetry, lyrics, music and other literary styles. Therefore, it has the advantages and characteristics of various styles: fresh and beautiful, neat and elegant, changeable style, flexible and free, short and concise, harmonious in phonology, strong in artistry, wide in adaptability, etc. The main methods of couplets include:

1. Opposite

Its content is mainly composed of parallel relationships. The contents of the upper and lower lines are similar, similar or related, and the various words are neatly opposite to each other. However, the content cannot be the same, and synonymous content words cannot be relative. For example, the Anhui Bailong Temple couplet: "The dragon hides in the huge sea and the autumn clouds are pale; the birds stay in the deserted hills and the moon is cold at night."

2. object

There is a turning (transformation) relationship and a purpose relationship in the content composition, but the meanings of the upper and lower lines are opposite, reflecting the positive and negative sides of one thing. Most of the words used have opposite meanings. For example: Mr. Cheng Daozhou, an ancient doctor, once signed a couplet at the door of his medicine shop: I hope everyone is healthy, why don't I be poor alone!

3. String pair

Even if the same idea is expressed in two sentences, the upper and lower couplets are meaningless independently. At least it doesn't make sense. Therefore, the upper and lower couplets generally have relationships such as cause and effect, coherence, progression, conditions, assumptions, etc. For example: in Du Fu's "Spring Hope", "The flames of war last for three months; a letter from home is worth ten thousand gold." There are continuous and progressive causal relationships. This kind of pair is also called running water pair.
