A Big Fish PPT, Part 2: Text Analysis

Ask students to read the text quickly and think: What does the text talk about?

(One evening), (Tom) and (Dad) went to (the island in the lake) (fishing), and Tom (caught a big bass), but his father insisted (asked him to let go of the big fish).

Think about it: Based on what we just filled in the blanks, what two parts can we divide the text into?

Please read paragraphs 3-5 of the fishing part of the text carefully. As you read, think: From which words can you tell that this is a big fish? Take out a pen and draw it and make annotations.

Ah, so big! Or a sea bass! Tom had never seen such a big bass. He and his father proudly admired this beautiful big bass, watching the fish's gills open and close under the silver moonlight.

Please read the third paragraph of the text freely, find the words that describe Tom's fishing action, and circle them.

Study the 4th natural paragraph:

See how Tom fishes? Take out a pen and draw it and make annotations.

Why did dad do this? How did Tom react after hearing this? Ask the students to read paragraphs 6-12 of the text and underline sentences describing Tom's psychological activities.
