About the Author

Hail Yulievich Lermontov (1814-1841), Russian poet. He was born into a noble family. In 1828, he entered the Moscow aristocratic boarding school and began to compose poetry. In 1835, he published the long poem "Haji Ablek" and the play "Masquerade".

When Pushkin was killed in February 1837, Lermontov wrote the poem "Death of the Poet", angrily pointing out that the murderer of Pushkin was the Russian upper class.

This poem with a strong political color shocked the Russian literary world and established the poet's status as Pushkin's successor. However, it was hated by the reactionary Tsarist authorities, and Lermontov was exiled to the Caucasus.
