Lao She (1899-1966), whose original name was Shu Qingchun and whose courtesy name was Sheyu, was a Manchu. He was one of the pioneers of new literature since the May 4th Movement in my country. He was an outstanding modern language artist, a patriotic writer with world-renowned reputation, and a people's artist. In 1951, he was awarded the title of "People's Artist" by the Beijing Municipal People's Government. His representative works include the novels "Camel Xiangzi" and "Four Generations Under One Roof", etc., and his scripts include "Teahouse" and "Longxugou". Plot summary

The play has three acts in total, each depicting an era.

Act One (Excerpt): After the failure of the Reform Movement of 1898 in 1898, the business of Yutai Tea House was booming, with people from all walks of life gathering here.

Act 2: During the warlord period, the teahouse business was difficult. Despite Wang Lifa's painstaking efforts to improve, the teahouse could only operate miserably.

Act III: After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, social life during the Kuomintang rule. All the honest people in the play are trapped in a dilemma from which they cannot extricate themselves.

He is timid and selfish, but also shrewd, capable, good at socializing, and adopts different attitudes towards different people.

Image analysis of Chang Siye (language and personality)

Chang Siye was a bannerman and ate imperial food during the Manchu Qing Dynasty. But he was dissatisfied with the corrupt Qing Dynasty and hated foreigners even more. He was arrested for saying "the Qing Dynasty is about to end". He is upright, strong, kind, daring and has a sense of justice. He did not mince words about his dissatisfaction. This image represented the Chinese people who were unwilling to be enslaved and reflected the rebellious mood of the people of old China.

What if the emperor changes his mind back? "What does this reflect about his mentality?"

This shows that the working people at the bottom of society have felt through their own personal experience that the change in the form of upper-class rule in China has not brought about any essential changes in society. The Qing Dynasty perished, and China was still in darkness.

When the newsboy came to the teahouse to sell newspapers, Wang Lifa said: "Is there any news about war?" What does this sentence mean? What social reality does it reflect?

This is Wang Lifa's irony, disgust and helplessness towards the times.

This reflects the reality of war and chaos during the Republic of China, and the country had no peace.

When Song Enzi said, "Whoever gives us food to eat, we will work for him", Fourth Master Chang asked further: "What if foreigners give us food to eat?" What kind of character does this reflect of Fourth Master Chang?

This reflects Mr. Chang's stubbornness, integrity, hatred of imperialism and its minions, and his strong sense of justice.

At the end of the text, "Tea Guest A" said: "Jiang! You are finished!" The subtext of this sentence is: the Qing government is finished, the Qing Dynasty society is finished, and this era is destroyed.

Through many events, the article reflects the dark and decadent social reality in the late Qing Dynasty from many aspects and angles, and the people were in dire straits. For example: dignitaries fought over a domestic pigeon, a shameless old eunuch from the court unexpectedly married a wife, an eighty-two-year-old lonely old man who sold ears and dug spoons was reduced to the streets, a hungry peasant girl was sold into a pit of fire, Chang Si I was arrested and imprisoned because of one sentence, as well as the failure of the Reform Movement of 1898, the invasion of imperialism, etc. These various figures and events, large and small, all show the sharp opposition between the reactionary ruling class and the masses of the people in the late Qing Dynasty. Revealing the inevitable fate of that era.
