Description
"Bian Que Meets Duke Huan of Cai" PPT Courseware 4
Han Fei (approximately 280 BC to 233 BC) was a Korean in the late Warring States Period, a Korean aristocrat, a famous thinker, and a major representative of the Legalist school. He and Li Si were both students of Xunzi. "Historical Records" said that he "had a stutter and could not speak, but he was good at writing books." Seeing that South Korea's national power was weakening day by day, Han Fei advised the King of Han several times, but the King of Han would not listen. When Han Fei was alive, the reputation of this book he wrote was very great. Qin Shihuang, who was still the king of Qin at that time, read the chapters such as "Indignation" and "Five Worms" and liked it very much. He said, "Everyone must see this." People who swim with it will not hate it until they die." But in 234 BC, when Han Fei was sent as an envoy to Qin, he was framed and imprisoned by Li Si, and was later forced to commit suicide by taking poison.
His main work "Han Feizi" was compiled by later generations by collecting his posthumous works and adding other people's articles discussing Han Fei. It is a culmination of Legalist theory. Although it is a collection of essays, there are many vivid fables in it, which are used to illustrate things, such as "waiting for rabbits", "self-contradiction", "Zheng Ren buys shoes", etc., which have always been familiar to people.
