collaborative inquiry
1. Why did Lu Xun leave Tokyo to study medicine in Sendai, and why did he later abandon medicine and pursue literature? What do you think of from Lu Xun’s life choices?
From this article, it can be seen from this article that the direct reason why Lu Xun left Tokyo to study medicine in Sendai was that he hated the study environment in Tokyo and the muddled behavior of the Qing students. However, looking at Lu Xun’s life pursuits and other works, Lu Xun made the choice with a strong desire to save the country and the people. He studied medicine, but when he was studying medicine, the "movie-watching incident" greatly stimulated Lu Xun, which prompted Lu Xun to develop the idea of "abandoning medicine and pursuing literature." He “feels that medicine is not an urgent matter. All stupid citizens, no matter how healthy and strong they are, can only serve as meaningless publicity materials and spectators... Therefore, our first priority is to change them. The spirit of Lu Xun, and what is good at changing the spirit is that at that time I thought that of course I should promote literature and art, so I wanted to promote the literary and art movement." From this we can see that Lu Xun went from Tokyo to Sendai to study medicine, and then abandoned medicine to pursue literature from Sendai. This process was permeated with Lu Xun's strong patriotic thoughts and feelings of saving the country and the people.
2. Leaving Tokyo and going to Sendai, you must have seen a lot along the way. Why does the author only remember the two place names "Nippori" and "Mito"?
Because "Nippori" reminds people of Qu Yuan's "Li Sao" poem "The sun suddenly turns to dusk", which reminds the author of the decline of the Qing Dynasty and the end of the road; I remember Mihu because it is a city full of national integrity and patriotic sentiment. The place where Zhu Shunshui, a scholar of the Qing Dynasty, died. Remember that the names of these two places reveal the author's patriotism.
3. How do you understand "but at that time and in that place, my opinion changed"?
"That time and that place" refers to the time when Lu Xun was studying abroad in Sendai, Japan. "My opinion" is to save the country through science, because the anonymous letter incident and the movie watching incident made the author realize that medicine is not an important thing. The first priority is to change their spirit. Therefore, the author decided to abandon medicine and pursue literature.
