How are glaciers and icebergs formed?

On the earth, some high mountain areas and the two poles wear a white "coat" of ice and snow all year round. In alpine areas, due to the high terrain, the air is thin and does not retain warmth. In the polar areas, due to less heat received from the sun, the climate is cold all year round, and ice and snow accumulate all year round. This ice and snow is stored and moved there in the form of glaciers.

Why is it called a glacier? This is because although it is solid ice, it can flow slowly from high to low under the influence of gravity. The flow speed of glaciers is generally less than 1 meter per day and night, and individual glaciers can flow as fast as more than 20 meters per day and night. But they have a rule: the thicker the glacier, the steeper the slope, and the higher the temperature, the faster the glacier flows.

The ice that makes up glaciers is different from ordinary ice. It is not simply frozen. Instead, it first melts when snowflakes fall more and more, and due to the occasional sunlight, it melts slightly, but then freezes again. Granular snow is formed, and then further formed into an ice layer. This ice is slightly lighter than ordinary ice and is called glacier ice. Glaciers that exist in high mountains are called alpine glaciers; glaciers that are distributed in the polar regions are called continental glaciers. Almost the entire Antarctic continent and a large part of Greenland are buried under ice more than a kilometer thick.
