Crossing Ling Ding Yang PPT, part 2: Getting closer to the author

Wen Tianxiang (1236-1283), also known as Songrui and Lushan. No. Wenshan. A native of Luling (now Ji'an, Jiangxi Province), he was a politician, writer, patriotic poet, and famous anti-Yuan official in the late Song Dynasty. He was known as the "Three Heroes of the late Song Dynasty" together with Lu Xiufu and Zhang Shijie. From the official position to the right prime minister, he wrote to the Duke of the country. He was defeated and captured at Wupoling, and would rather die than surrender. He is the author of "Collected Poems of Wenshan", "Guanzhi Lu", "Guanzhihoulu", "Song of Righteousness", etc.

writing background

After the Yuan army occupied Lin'an, Jiangnan, Fujian and Guangzhou and other places were not yet controlled by the Yuan army. The Yuan army lured Wen Tianxiang to surrender. Wen Tianxiang would rather die than surrender, so the Yuan army had to escort him to the north. Traveling to Zhenjiang, Wen Tianxiang took the risk to escape. After many hardships and obstacles, he arrived in Fuzhou in 1276 and was appointed Prime Minister You by Duanzong of Song Dynasty. In the winter of 1278, Wen Tianxiang was defeated and captured in Guangdong.

In February 1279, the Southern Song Dynasty and the Yuan Dynasty launched a naval battle in the waters of Yashan, Xinhui, Guangdong, which lasted for more than 20 days. Both sides invested more than 500,000 troops and used more than 2,000 warships. In the end, the Song army was completely annihilated, and the Southern Song minister Lu Hideo carried the 9-year-old emperor on his back and threw himself into the sea. 100,000 soldiers and civilians of the Southern Song Dynasty followed the emperor and jumped into the sea to commit suicide. The warship sank, 100,000 corpses were found floating on the sea, and the Southern Song Dynasty was destroyed.

This was the last battle of the Southern Song Dynasty - the Battle of Yashan. For the first time, China died as a whole at the hands of the nomadic people - the Mongols.

This poem was written by the author when he was passing through Lingding Ocean in the first month of the second year after he was captured. The poem expresses Wen Tianxiang's noble national integrity.

At that time, Zhang Hongfan, the commander-in-chief of the Yuan Army, forced Wen Tianxiang to write a letter to surrender the Song Dynasty general Zhang Shijie who was resisting at sea. Wen Tianxiang firmly refused and wrote the poem "Crossing the Lingding Ocean" in response.

Crossing Ling Ding Yang PPT, the third part: basic knowledge

Gange: two kinds of weapons, here refers to war.

Lonely: Desolate and desolate.

Four stars: refers to four years.

The mountains and rivers were broken: refers to the Song Dynasty’s territory being invaded and occupied by the Yuan army.

Feng Piaoxu: Describes the broken mountains and rivers, like pieces of catkins flying away.

Floating and sinking: rising and sinking.

The rain beats the duckweeds: It is a metaphor for the ups and downs of personal experience, like duckweeds rising and sinking in the rain.

Panic Beach: In present-day Wan'an County, Jiangxi Province, it is one of the eighteen beaches in Ganjiang River. The current is turbulent and it is the most dangerous beach. Those who cross it are frightened, so it is called "Fear Beach".

Crossing Ling Ding Yang PPT, Part 4: Overall Perception

Tell me about the meaning of the poem.

Relying on his own hard work and mastering a kind of scripture, he finally achieved fame and began a turbulent and arduous political career; four full years of hardship passed since he led the rebel army to fight against the Yuan soldiers.

The great rivers and mountains of the motherland were shattered by the enemy's invasion, like catkins blown away by strong winds; my own life experience was also turbulent, like duckweed tossed and tossed by heavy rain.

Thinking of the previous defeat in Jiangxi and the scene of the evacuation from the panic beach, the treacherous rapids and severe situation still make people panic; thinking of the entire Wulingpo army annihilated last year and trapped in the enemy's hands, now in the vast Lingding Ocean, I can only lament my loneliness.

Since ancient times, who has never died? Sacrifice your life for your country, die a worthy death, and leave this sincere heart to illuminate history!

Crossing Ling Ding Yang PPT, Part 5: Appreciation of Poems

What experience does the first couplet review of the poet? (What two major personal and national events are written in the first couplet?)

One is to read scriptures and enter official career;

Second, at a critical moment for the country's survival, he raised troops to resist the Yuan Dynasty and fought frequently for four years.

What do the couplets "wind fluttering catkins" and "rain beating ping" metaphor?

"Wind floating catkins" is a metaphor (the country's power is like catkins floating away, irreversible). The country's destiny is bleak and in danger.

"Rain hits Ping" is a metaphor for one's ups and downs in life, like a duckweed floating without roots in the rain, rising and sinking. (The family is broken up, everyone is dead, and I am alone.)

Connection: The country's mountains and rivers are in pieces, the situation is critical, and personal destiny is also turbulent. The destiny of the country and the destiny of the individual are closely connected, and they have gone through hardships and dangers.

Please appreciate the couplets from a rhetorical perspective:

The fragmentation of the Song Dynasty is like catkins blown away by the phoenix, and my life rises and falls like duckweeds beaten by rain in the water. The poet uses metaphors to vividly express the fate and suffering of the country and individuals.

The two words "panic" are linked at the neck. What is the meaning of the two "lonely words"? What thoughts and feelings does the poet express?

The first sentence recalls the mood of worrying about national affairs when Fujian was defeated, and the second sentence describes the current lonely situation of being captured unfortunately. Meaning: The former "panic" and "lingding" refer to place names, while the latter "panic" and "lingding" describe moods. Cleverly using the two place names of Panpantan and Lingdingyang, he wrote about the danger of the situation and the danger of the situation.

The thoughts and feelings expressed in this poem: It expresses the poet's worries about the perilous national destiny and his own situation.

To summarize the content of the entire poem:

The first couplet writes about the poet Han Chuang who studied hard to gain fame and enter an official career; it also writes about the poet's experience in revolting against the Yuan Dynasty.

The chin couplet writes about the bleak fate of the country and the dangers; his family is broken up and he is alone.

The neck couplet expresses the poet's worries about the country and his own situation.

The last couplet expresses the integrity of the national hero who would rather die than surrender, and would rather live in pieces than in ruins.
