Focus on the Middle East PPT, the third part: teacher summary:
Based on the discussion results of the students, we can summarize the causes of conflicts in the Middle East into the following key points:
1. Territorial dispute.
Israel declared its founding on May 14, 1948.
On May 15, 1948, war finally broke out between Israel and its Arab neighbors.
Nearly 70 million Palestinians have fled or been driven from their homes during the war. Israel annexed more than 6,200 square kilometers of land assigned to Palestine and forcibly occupied West Jerusalem. King Abdullah of Jordan at the time occupied the West Bank territory assigned to Palestine, including East Jerusalem, totaling 5,268 square kilometers.
2. The dispute over the canal.
The opening of the Suez Canal made the Middle East a strategic hub for transportation between the East and the West. It also became a strategic location for colonialist countries to expand to the East and plunder Middle East oil. Therefore, during the past 100 years, Britain and France have controlled the Suez Canal, and Egypt's struggle to regain sovereignty over the canal has also constituted one of the long-term disputes in the region.
On July 26, 1956, the Egyptian government announced that it would nationalize the Suez Canal Company and transfer all the company's properties to Egypt.
3. The battle for oil.
The Middle East has large oil reserves, high output, shallow burial, large oil output, and good oil quality. It is the world's major oil-producing and oil-exporting area. Rich oil resources make the Middle East have an important influence in the world economy, and it has also made the Middle East a focus of international conflicts.
4. The dispute over fresh water.
The Middle East is located in an arid area, and most countries are extremely short of water resources. Some countries have no rivers or only seasonal rivers. The increase in population and the development of industry and agriculture have increased the demand for water resources in the region. Therefore, the level of development and utilization of water resources directly affects the level of economic development and all aspects of social life in these countries. The uneven distribution of water resources has further aggravated conflicts among countries in the region.
5. Religious disputes.
The Middle East is the birthplace of the three major religions, the core area of Islamic culture and the inhabited area of Arabs. The land, religious and cultural disputes between Israel, which believes in Judaism, and neighboring Arab countries have been around for a long time, and have intensified, becoming the key to the Middle East issue.
