Part 1: Why does the heartbeat speed up?

The human heart is located at the lower left side of the middle of the chest. It is shaped like a peach and is about the size of a fist.

The oxygen needed by the human body is inhaled by the lungs and enters the blood, and is then transported by the heart to various parts of the body through blood vessels. Waste products such as carbon dioxide are also collected and excreted from the body.

As the amount of physical activity increases, people need more oxygen, and the heartbeat gradually accelerates to deliver more blood.

The heart takes a short break between beats.

If the interval between two heartbeats is one second, it beats once per second. Then, the heart actually completes beating in 0.2 seconds, and rests for the remaining 0.8 seconds.

Although the heart takes a short break after each beat, we should also allow the heart more rest time. When the body is resting, especially when sleeping, the demand for oxygen is reduced, the number of heartbeats per minute will also be reduced, and the heart will get more rest. Therefore, reasonable rest and good sleep will make the heart work better and be beneficial to our health.

Regular exercise can also make our heart stronger.

Find a classmate who usually likes to exercise, and compare with him the time it takes to return to normal heartbeat after beating for 1 minute. Tabulate the data and compare it to see if it sheds light on the problem.
