Part One: Observing Water and Cooking Oil

Compare two liquids, water and cooking oil, to see how they are similar and different.

Use your eyes to compare the color and transparency of water and cooking oil;

Compare their smells with your nose;

Tilt the cup to compare their flow conditions and the degree of residue on the cup wall;

Stir with wooden sticks to compare their flow speeds;

Compare the dripping conditions of the two liquids on the wooden strips...

Tip: In scientific observation, we generally don’t compare objects by tasting them.

Comparison of droplets of water and cooking oil

Put a few drops of oil and water on glass and wax paper at the same time, observe and draw the shape of the droplets;

Compare what happens when water droplets and oil droplets roll on glass and wax paper?

What will happen if water and oil drop on newspaper?

Tip: Use separate droppers for water dripping and oil dripping.

The water droplets on the glass pieces and wax paper were a little deflated, and the oil droplets were even more deflated.

Water will wet the glass piece and form water marks on the glass piece after rolling, but not on wax paper; oil droplets will wet both.

Newspaper has a strong adsorption effect and will destroy water and oil to form droplets. At the same time, due to the different viscosity of the liquid, the infiltration speed and area size of water exceed that of oil droplets in a short period of time.
