Crossing Ling Ding Yang PPT, the fourth part: Appreciation of poems

1. Hard work/encounter/experience, fighting/few stars/all around.

Translation: The hardships of my life all began with a Confucian classic; four full years of hardship have passed since I led the rebel army to fight against the Yuan soldiers.

The first couplet describes two major personal and national events: one is that he was selected as an official by the imperial court because he was familiar with the scriptures and passed the imperial examination; the other is that when the country was in crisis, he raised troops to resist the Yuan Dynasty and survived the frequent battles. Four years have passed.

2. Mountains and rivers/broken/wind/floating catkins, life experience/ups and downs/rain/beating.

Translation: The great rivers and mountains of the motherland were shattered by the enemy's invasion, like catkins blown away by strong winds; my own life experience was also turbulent, like duckweed tossed and tossed by heavy rain.

Using metaphorical rhetoric, the mighty king's national power is compared to catkins in the wind, and the bumpy life experience is compared to duckweeds in the rain, vividly describing the sorrow of the country's destruction and people's death. The rhetoric of antitheses is used, "mountains and rivers are broken" versus "life experience ups and downs", "wind flutters with catkins" versus "rain hits rain", and the sentence structure is neat, which enhances the rhythmic beauty of the poem.

3. Panic Tan / Tou / said panic, Ling Ding Yang / Li / sigh Ling Ding.

Translation: Thinking of the defeat in Jiangxi and the scene of (oneself) evacuating from the frightened beachhead, the dangerous rapids and the severe situation, still make people panic; thinking of the entire army in Wulingpo last year, and being trapped in the enemy's hands, now in the vast In the lonely ocean, I can only lament my loneliness.

The neck couplet connects the previous sentence and the second sentence. The first sentence recalls the defeat and worries about national affairs. The second sentence describes the lonely situation of being captured. It uses dual meanings and puns, and cleverly uses the two place names of "Jianfangtan" and "Lingdingyang" to connect the past. The fear and loneliness at the moment are vividly displayed.

Crossing Ling Ding Yang PPT, the fifth part: Author’s introduction

Wen Tianxiang (June 6, 1236 - January 9, 1283), also known as Lushan and Songrui, was named Wenshan or Fuxiu Taoist. A native of Luling, Jizhou, Jiangxi (now part of Ji'an, Jiangxi), he was a minister, politician, writer, outstanding national hero and patriotic poet in the late Southern Song Dynasty. In the fourth year of Bao'an reign (1256), he became the number one scholar and became the Prime Minister and Privy Envoy. He was sent to the Yuan army's camp to negotiate and was detained. After escaping the danger, he passed through Jizhuang, Gaoyou, to Tangwan, Tai County, and returned south from Nantong, persisting in resisting the Yuan Dynasty. In the first year of Xiangxing (1278), he was defeated and captured by Zhang Hongfan, who continued to struggle in prison for more than three years. While in captivity, Emperor Shizu of the Yuan Dynasty persuaded him to surrender with the generous salary from a high-ranking official. Wen Tianxiang would rather die than surrender and go to justice calmly. On the ninth day of December in the nineteenth year of the Yuan Dynasty (1282), he calmly died in Chaishi. He is the author of "Crossing the Lingding Ocean", "Wenshan Poetry Collection", "Guanzhi Lu", "Guanzhi Houlu", "Song of Righteousness", etc.

Background introduction

In May 1278, the 10-year-old Duanzong of the Song Dynasty, Zhao , died of illness due to being spoiled since childhood and his weak constitution after drowning. Lu Xiufu and others supported Duanzong's 7-year-old brother Zhao as the emperor, with the reign name Xiangxing. . The imperial court moved to Lushan and granted Wen Tianxiang the title of Duke of Xinguo. In winter, Wen Tianxiang led his army to Chaoyang County, Chaozhou, hoping to take advantage of the dangerous mountains and seas to collect grain and recruit troops, looking for opportunities to rise again. However, the Yuan army advanced by land and water and launched a fierce attack. At the end of the year, Wen Tianxiang was suddenly attacked by the Yuan army at Wupoling in the north of Haifeng. He was defeated and captured. He immediately committed suicide by taking borneol, but failed. Zhang Hongfan, who had surrendered to the Yuan Dynasty, tried to persuade him to surrender, but was severely rejected. In the first month of 1279, the Yuan army left the Pearl River Estuary and attacked the last stronghold of the Southern Song Dynasty, Mount Shan (in today's Nanhai, Xinhui, Guangdong). Wen Tianxiang was escorted along with him. After the boat passed Lingdingyang (Lingdingyang is located at the mouth of the Pearl River in the south of Zhongshan, Guangdong, south of Zhongshan City, there is Lingding Mountain by the sea, and the sea below the mountain is called Lingdingyang), Marshal Zhang Hongfan of the Yuan Army forced Wen Tianxiang to surrender Zhang Shijie, the commander-in-chief of the Song Army who was adhering to the mountain. , Wen Tianxiang wrote this poem to express his ambition and sternly refuse. Wen Tianxiang's own note recorded in the "Guidebook" said: "On the last day of last month, Marshal Zhang ordered Marshal Li to cross the ship and asked Zhang Shaobao to write a letter to ask Zhang Shaobao to surrender. Then he said to him: 'I can't save my parents by myself, but teach others to carry them on their backs. But Huh?' He wrote this poem and left it. Li was not strong, and he held the poem to reach Zhang, but he said that he was a 'good man and a good poem', but he couldn't force him." Twenty days after writing this poem, the Battle of Shanhaiguo ended with the Song Dynasty's disastrous defeat. Die by the sea. The last emperor of the Song Dynasty died and the Song Dynasty fell.

Guo Ling Ding Yang PPT, Part Six: Material Selection Method

In order to express the pain of worrying about the country, what materials did the poet choose? What kind of lyrical approach was adopted?

Tip: You can search sentence by sentence.

Second sentence: The unsuccessful four-year anti-Yuan war.

The third sentence: The reality that the country will perish.

The fourth sentence: Think of your own ups and downs of destiny.

The fifth sentence: Recall the two experiences of passing through Panic Beach.

The sixth sentence: The experience of being captured after the failure of the anti-Yuan Dynasty.

Lyrical approach:

The first four sentences blend emotions into things, the five or six sentences are narrative and lyrical, and the last two sentences express one's feelings directly.

Crossing Ling Ding Yang PPT, Part Seven: Lyrical Way

The whole poem summarizes the major events in the author's life, blends narrative and ambition, is generous and sad, and deeply touching.

The first six sentences are conceived from both vertical and horizontal aspects, from oneself to state affairs, and from state affairs to oneself; from reality to imaginary, and from imaginary to reality, using two lyrical methods of blending emotions into things and narrative lyricism to repeatedly exaggerate the mood of worry, anger and sorrow.

The last two sentences turn into a passionate and generous swan song, which is completely a natural expression of the supreme spirit (expressing one's heart).

The first six sentences are foreshadowing, and the last two sentences are the main idea. The first six lines are heartbreaking, while the last two lines are high-pitched and uplifting. Such a change of mood naturally produces a shocking and earth-moving effect. Of course, the main reason why this poem has been passed down through the ages and enlightened the world is the noble integrity, tragic sentiment, and bloody spirit expressed in the poem!
