[Shi Naian] (1296-1370) was a Han nationality. His original name was Yanduan, his courtesy name was Zhaorui, his name was Zian, and his nickname was Naian. A native of Xinghua, Jiangsu Province, he was a famous writer in the late Yuan and early Ming dynasties.

At the age of 36, he was a Jinshi, and later abandoned his official position and returned home. He wrote books behind closed doors, and studied the creation of "The Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and "The Story of Sansui Pingyao" with his disciple Luo Guanzhong, and collected and organized stories about heroic figures such as Liangshan Bo, Song Jiang, etc. Finally, it was written as "Water Margin", one of the "Four Great Classics".

"Water Margin": a chapter-chapter novel written in vernacular Chinese in Chinese history. It has been classified by later generations as one of the four major literary masterpieces of classical Chinese literature. Its content tells the story of the green forest heroes headed by Song Jiang in Liangshanbo, Shandong Province in the Northern Song Dynasty. They were forced to fall into the grass, develop and grow, until they were recruited by the imperial court and conquered the east and west.

Water Margin is also known as "Water Margin of Loyalty and Righteousness". It was originally called "The Legend of Jianghu Heroes" and is generally referred to as "Water Margin". The whole book was finalized in the Ming Dynasty. It describes the peasant uprising led by Song Jiang in the late Northern Song Dynasty, portrays many heroes such as Li Kui, Wu Song, Lin Chong, and Lu Zhishen, exposes the brutality and decadence of the feudal ruling class, and exposes the social contradictions at that time.
