The Three Gorges of the Yangtze River: Also known as the Xiajiang River or the Great Three Gorges, it is located on the main stream of the Yangtze River in Chongqing City, Enshi Prefecture, and Yichang City, China. It starts from Baidi City in Fengjie County, Chongqing City in the west and ends at Nanjinguan in Yichang City, Hubei Province in the east. It is 193 kilometers long and consists of Qutang Gorge, Wu Gorge, and Xiling Gorge. It spans Fengjie, Chongqing, Wushan, Chongqing, Badong, Hubei, and Zigui, Yichang, Hubei.

Three Gorges PPT, Part 2: Getting closer to the author

[Li Daoyuan] has a long character. He was a geographer and essayist from Fanyang Zhuo County in the Northern Wei Dynasty. He was studious by nature and read many books. He wrote 40 volumes of "Shui Jing Zhu", which was an annotation of the "Shui Jing" written by an unknown person in the Wei and Jin Dynasties.

Within seven hundred miles from the Three Gorges, there are mountains on both sides of the river, and there are almost no gaps. The heavy rocks/overlapping peaks hide the sky/block out the sun. At midnight, the pavilion cannot see/the bright moon.

Read the text aloud and summarize the scenery of the Three Gorges described by the author:

Read sentences about mountains and analyze the characteristics of mountains.

"There are mountains on both sides of the bank, with no gaps at all. The mountains are stacked on top of each other, hiding the sky and blocking out the sun. Since it is not a pavilion, there is no bright moon at midnight."

This article writes about the scenery of the Three Gorges in four seasons, focusing on the water. Why start with the mountains? Instead of writing in the order of spring, summer, autumn and winter?

(1) "Gorge" is a place between two mountains with water. Only when there are mountains can there be water, so we start with the mountains.

(2) The order of writing water is the arrangement of the fluctuation of water bearing potential. The river surges in summer, is calm in spring and winter, and dries up in autumn. It makes sense to follow the trend. The two seasons of spring and winter are written together because the water conditions are relatively similar.

Three Gorges PPT, Part Six: Research on Writing Methods

1. Reasonable layout.

The author first writes about the seven hundred miles of mountains, then about the surge of water in summer, then about the beautiful scenery in spring and winter, and finally about the chill of cold autumn. Because the mountains in the Three Gorges are unusual, they are not only numerous, connected, and high, but also the gorges are very narrow.
