Xu Xiujuan (1964-1987) was born in a family of crane farmers. After graduating from university in 1986, he applied to work in our Yancheng Red-crowned Crane Nature Reserve and established the first crane breeding farm in Jiangsu Province.

Because of her love for and protection of birds, on September 16, 1987, she accidentally fell into a swamp in search of a lost red-crowned crane and gave up her beautiful life at the age of only 23. In order to praise and remember the martyr Xu Xiujuan, people created a song "A True Story".
