Part 1: Introduction to the author

Li He (790-816), whose courtesy name was Changji, was known as Li Changji, Guicai, Shigui, etc. He, together with Li Bai and Li Shangyin, was known as the "Three Lis" of the Tang Dynasty. His ancestral home is Longxi, and he was born in Changgu, Fuchang County (now Yiyang County, Luoyang, Henan). Li He is a representative of the romantic poets of the Mid-Tang Dynasty and an important figure in the transition period from the Mid-Tang Dynasty to the late Tang Dynasty. His representative works include "The Journey of the Governor of Yanmen", "The King of Qin Drinks" and "Dream Sky".

"The Journey of the Grand Administrator of Yanmen": Li He lived in an era where rebellions in feudal towns occurred one after another, and major wars occurred. According to historical records, in 809 (the fourth year of Yuanhe), Wang Chengzong's rebels attacked Yizhou and Dingzhou, and patriotic general Li Guangyan once led his troops to rescue them. In the ninth year of Yuanhe, he took the lead, broke out and attacked the siege of Wu Yuanji's rebels, and killed the enemy to the point where they fell on their backs and fled in confusion.

Judging from some legends and material records about the poem "Yanmen Taishou's Journey", it is speculated that it may be about the war to quell the rebellion in the feudal town. It was the second year of Yuanhe, 807 AD. Li He was only 17 years old at the time. This poem describes a hero who is passionate and generous, fights against all odds and is willing to die on the battlefield.

Yanmen Taishou PPT, the third part: summary of the main theme

The poet used colorful words to describe the tragic war scenes, forming a unique artistic conception, and praised the heroic spirit of the soldiers guarding the border who fought bloody battles and regarded death as if they were home.

Key Appreciation

This poem uses old Yuefu inscriptions to describe the battles at the frontier fortress at that time. The first four sentences describe the scene before sunset. "Dark clouds are pressing down on the city, ready to destroy it" uses metaphor and exaggeration to exaggerate the tense atmosphere and critical situation when the enemy is approaching the city. "The light of armor opens towards the sun and the golden scales open" describes the situation of the defenders in the city being well prepared and prepared.

"The sound of trumpets fills the sky in the autumn colors, and the stuffed swallows turn purple at night" describes the scenery of the frontier fortress during the fierce battle in a magnificent way. The last four sentences describe the Tang army soldiers who attacked the enemy camp at night and died to serve the court. "A half-rolled red flag is approaching the Yishui River, and the heavy frost and cold drums can't make a sound." It is obviously a hard battle for the submarine master's night attack. The allusion of "reporting to the king on the golden platform, supporting the jade dragon and dying for the king" is consistent with the location of the war, and is also a praise for the emperor and the soldiers.

There are eight sentences in the whole poem, and three scenes are written: one during the day, showing the officers and soldiers being heavily guarded; one before dusk, showing the hard training of troops; and one in the middle of the night, showing the officers and soldiers unexpectedly attacking the enemy. The first couplet describes both scenes and events, exaggerating the tense atmosphere and critical situation of approaching the city. The second sentence writes that the soldiers guarding the city are waiting in full formation, using the sunlight to show the might and majesty of the defenders. The chin couplet and the neck couplet respectively exaggerate the tragic atmosphere of the battlefield and the extreme cruelty of the battle in terms of sound and color. The last couplet quotes allusions to express the soldiers' determination to serve the country to the death.
