Description
"Probability of Equally Possible Events" Preliminary Probability PPT Download
Part 1: Think about it
Previously we used the frequency of an event to estimate the probability of the event, but what we got was often just an estimate of the probability.
So, are there any other ways to find probability?
Probability of other possible events PPT, part 2 content: Discuss
1. There are 5 balls in a bag, marked with the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. These balls are all the same except for the number. After mixing them evenly, pick out any ball.
(1) What are the possible outcomes?
(2) Are each outcome equally likely? Guess what their probabilities are?
2. What do the coin toss, dice and ball games we mentioned earlier have in common?
Generally, if an experiment has n equally possible outcomes,
Event A contains m outcomes, then the probability of event A occurring is: P(A)=m/n
Example 1: Roll a uniform dice at random.
(1) What is the probability that the number rolled is greater than 4?
(2) What is the probability that the number thrown is an even number?
Solution: If you throw a uniform die at random, there are 6 possible outcomes:
The numbers thrown are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6,
Because the dice are uniform in texture, each outcome is equally likely.
(1) There are only two results when the number of points rolled is greater than 4:
The numbers thrown are 5 and 6 respectively, so P (the number thrown is greater than 4) =
(2) There are three results when the number thrown is an even number:
The numbers thrown are 2, 4, and 6 respectively, so P (the number thrown is an even number) =
Probability of other possible events PPT, part 3: practice in class
1. Write the five letters A, B, C, D, and E on 5 identical slips of paper respectively, and put these slips of paper in a box. After mixing well, take out any one of them, and a box will appear. What are the possible outcomes? Are they equally possible?
2. From a deck of playing cards, if one card is randomly selected, what is the probability of drawing the king? What is the probability of drawing 3? What is the probability of drawing a diamond?
3. There are 7 pieces of paper marked with the numbers 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 4, and 5 respectively. One piece is randomly selected from them. Find:
(1) The probability of drawing a paper ticket marked with the number 3;
(2) The probability of drawing the paper ticket marked with the number 1;
(3) The probability of drawing a piece of paper marked with an odd number.
Probability of other possible events PPT, Part 4: Summary
Steps to find the probability of simple events using P(A)=m/n:
(1) Judgment: All possible results of the test must be limited, and the likelihood of various results must be equal;
(2) Determine: the number n of all results that occur in the test and the number m of all results that occur in event A;
(3) Calculation: Apply the formula P(A)=m/n to calculate
