"Moonlight Night on the Spring River" is adapted from the pipa song "Sunset Flute and Drums". It is a famous traditional pipa opera set that has been circulated in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The music score was first seen by Ju Shilin (before 1820) and Wu Wanqing (1875). The manuscript was included in Li Fangyuan's 1895 compilation of "New Scores of Thirteen Daqu Operas of the Northern and Southern Schools", titled "Xunyang Pipa". When Shen Haochu compiled "Yangzhengxuan Pipa Score" in 1929, the song was called "Sunset Flute and Drum". In 1925, Liu Yaozhang and Zheng Jinwen of the Shanghai Datong Ensemble changed this piece to a silk and bamboo ensemble. At the same time, it was renamed "Spring River Flowers and Autumn Moon Night" according to "Spring River Flowers and Autumn Moon Night" in "The Story of Pipa".

The whole piece has the most common multi-section structure in ethnic instrumental music. Peng Xiuwen, conductor of the National Orchestra of China Central Broadcasting Orchestra and master of folk music, has extremely delicate artistic treatment of this piece. He makes full use of the rich instrumental colors of the big band and cleverly arranges it. The instruments increase and decrease from time to time, making the band's sound full of changes in high, low, thick, light, thick and thin, with distinct levels; in terms of musical performance, it not only promotes the elegant style of classical music, but also makes the music full of inner passion and emotion. Rhyme, full of life.

The music begins with "Jiang Tower Bells and Drums", in which the pipa is used to imitate the sound of drums, and the flute and zither are used to play the sound of the sound. Then the beautiful melody of Xu Shu is played, depicting the sunset scenery with the sunset reflecting on the river and the gentle evening breeze.

The second paragraph: "Moon on the East Mountain", the theme tone is a fourth high enough, and the melody is raised upward, expressing a dynamic feeling of the moon rising slowly.

The third section: "The wind returns to the water", the melody descends and then rises again.

The fourth section: "Cascading Flower Shadows", four fast and complicated phrases appear.

The fifth section: "The depth of water and clouds", the music first swirls in the bass area, then jumps octaves, and uses vibrato and overtones to play an elegant sound, expressing the artistic conception of water and sky.

The sixth paragraph: "Fishing boats sing late" shows the melody of a fishing song. The soft sound of the flute comes from a distance like a melodious fishing song, showing the leisurely and contented image of the fishermen. This was followed by a slightly faster and more powerful band ensemble, with a warm atmosphere, expressing the joy of the fishermen returning home with a full load.

The seventh section: "Hui Lan slaps the shore", entering the first climax of the whole song. After the pipa played a strong sound using the "sweeping wheel" technique, the band played in full, depicting the scene of a group of boats racing back home with splashing waves.
