Part 1: What’s inside a small electric motor?

Observe the disassembled small motor. How many parts does it have? What parts are there in each part?

When we see a coil wound around an iron core, we think of an electromagnet. How can we verify our conjecture?

When power is supplied to the coil from the commutator, you can see that the rotor core can pick up the pins, and the rotor is three electromagnets.

Read the information and compare it with the small motor to understand the function of the commutator.

The purpose of the commutator is to switch on the current and change the direction of the current.

During the rotation of the small motor, the brushes contact the three metal rings of the commutator in sequence, and the direction of the current passing through the rotor coil will automatically change.

Guess why the small electric motor rotates.

The rotation of the small motor is the result of the work of various parts. How are these three parts put together?

The rotation of the rotor must be related to the action of force. How will the magnets on the housing interact with the rotor electromagnets?

The mutual attraction or repulsion between the magnet and the electromagnet (rotor) drives the rotor to rotate?

Test our conjectures.

1. Install the bracket and circuit.

Place two rubber bands on the inverted cup.

Insert a wire bracket into the rubber ring and install it on the cup.

Wrap the two wires together with tape, separate the ends of one end into a "V" shape, and insert a rubber band into the other end to secure it.

Connect the wires to the battery and switch.

2. Place the rotor.

Place the rotor on the stand. Adjust the position of the bracket so that the rotor can turn without slipping off.

3. Let the small motor rotor rotate.

When current is supplied to the rotor coil, does the rotor rotate? What else needs to be done to make the rotor turn?

4. Change the rotation state of the small motor rotor.

Give it a try, would using two magnets make the rotor spin faster?

Is the rotation speed related to the distance of the magnet from the rotor?

How to change the direction of rotor rotation?

Flip the faces of both magnets simultaneously (change the north and south polarity toward the rotor)

Change battery positive and negative connections
