Activity 1: Discuss and describe our country’s place in the world

1. According to the eastern and western hemispheres and the northern and southern hemispheres, tell which hemisphere our country is located in.

2. Find out the Tropic of Cancer and the Arctic Circle, and observe which of the five zones most of our country's land belongs to.

3. Find out Asia and the Pacific, and talk about the characteristics of our country’s land and sea location.

Hemisphere location: Eastern Hemisphere Northern Hemisphere

Latitude location: Most of it belongs to the north temperate zone, and a small part belongs to the tropics

Sea and land location: Eastern Asia, west coast of the Pacific Ocean

Activity 2: Read maps and analyze the characteristics of China’s geographical location

1. Compare the latitude position of our country with that of Russia and Indonesia, and talk about the characteristics of our country’s latitude position.

2. Compare the land and sea positions of my country with those of Japan and Mongolia, and talk about the characteristics of my country’s land and sea positions.

Activity 3: Role play and talk about the superior geographical location of China

Maritime trade and land trade are developed

Activity 4: Vast Territory

1. Find the four solstices of our country’s territory and talk about the longitude and latitude that our country’s territory spans.

2. Based on the scale, estimate the distances between the east and west ends and the north and south ends of our territory.

The westernmost part of the territory: Xinjiang Pamir Plateau (near 73˚ E)

The southernmost point of the territory: Zengmu Shoal in the Nansha Islands in the South China Sea. (near 4˚ N)

The easternmost point of the territory: the intersection of the center lines of the main channels of the Heilongjiang River and the Ussuri River. (more than 135˚E)

The northernmost point of the territory: the center line of the main channel of Heilongjiang north of Mohe, Heilongjiang. (more than 53˚N)
