Chinese Writing History Sculpture 2

Text/Niu Lusheng

Large seal script (bronze inscriptions, stone drum inscriptions)

Dazhuan is a type of writing that was engraved on bronzes, stone drums, pottery, etc. during the Shang, Zhou, Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods before the Qin Dynasty unified writing. Those on stone drums and stone tools are called stone drum inscriptions, and those carved on pottery are called pottery inscriptions.

During the Shang, Zhou, Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, there were many vassal states, and each country had its own writing. Some of these writings were similar, and some were unrelated. There were many, very messy, and it was very troublesome to identify them.

The 1, 2, 3 and 4 stones in the history of Chinese writing in the sculpture park are: 1. Oracle bone inscriptions, 2. Epigraphic inscriptions, 3. Xiaozhuan script, 4. Inscriptions on epigraphy and stone. According to the order of writing history, the fourth stone should be the Xiaozhuan script, but because the third stone is larger (for the sake of visual dispersion, it is not suitable to arrange it from small to large), so it highlights the third larger stone. , as the small seal script after the unification of the Qin Dynasty to show off, and the fourth stone was placed on the side of the third stone as epigraphic inscriptions.

But I will introduce it in the order of Chinese writing history.

The special stamp "Ancient Chinese Calligraphy - Seal Script" was issued on February 22, 2003. There are two stamps in total. The first one uses "Mao Gong's Tripod", which is a bronze inscription and a large seal script. The second piece of "Taishan Carved Stone" is Xiaozhuan. This article will not introduce Xiaozhuan.

"Mao Gong's Tripod" is about the king of Zhou who ordered his important minister Mao Gong to revitalize the Zhou Dynasty and eliminate the long-standing disadvantages. He asked him to loyally assist the king of Zhou to avoid the disaster of ruining the country, and gave him a large number of items. In order to express his gratitude to the King of Zhou, Duke Mao made a special tripod to commemorate the incident. Its calligraphy is a mature Western Zhou Dynasty bronze inscription style, with a well-proportioned and accurate structure, strong and steady lines, appropriate layout, and full of rational color, showing that the bronze inscriptions have developed to an extremely mature stage.

You can find pictures, texts and translations of "Mao Gong's Cauldron" on the Internet. I won't go into details here. I will only download a section related to the text on the stamp for appreciation.
