When I was very young, I liked to read beautiful calligraphy, and I also had an inexplicable liking for people with beautiful handwriting. This preference continues to this day. I believe there are not many such people, because we Chinese people love Chinese characters and calligraphy, which has been passed down to our bones for generations and is innate. But one thing is that I don’t like to “follow the crowd”. I generally won’t learn any font that others are trying to learn. Perhaps this can also be regarded as a "sick" mentality. I always feel that I am learning one person’s handwriting. Over time, everyone’s handwriting will be carved out of the same mold. No matter how good the handwriting is, I will become tired of it and not feel fresh after seeing it too much. Just as Zhao Yi's poem in the Qing Dynasty said: "Li and Du's poems have been passed down through the ages, but they are no longer new. Talented people have emerged from generation to generation, and each has led the way for hundreds of years." So compared to Wang Xizhi, I prefer to appreciate Mi Fu's calligraphy. It’s not that I have a high level of art appreciation, maybe I just like his feeling of “never guessing the next thing”.

I am very picky when choosing copybooks. I have looked up calligraphy materials for almost all calligraphy masters who are currently using hard pens, and then selected the copybooks I like to learn from. For example, the calligrapher I recommend today, Mr. Fan Linqing, has very good calligraphy, with beautiful strokes, a compact structure in the middle, and an open outer structure. It is a good textbook for getting started with hard-pen calligraphy. Unfortunately, his works are relatively rare on the market, so many hard-pen calligraphy enthusiasts are not familiar with his handwriting. In fact, there are many people who are good at hard-pen calligraphy. There are many unknown masters among the people. Tian Yingzhang and Jing are not the only ones.

Due to time constraints, I have never written his handwriting, but I have always liked his style of hard-pen regular script for many years.

Fan Lao's calligraphy has obvious Zhao style and European style, but the structure also has a bit of Qi Gong style, which makes people have endless aftertaste after reading it. Although Mr. Fan is not well-known among the people and not many people know him, his hard-pen calligraphy skills are absolutely top-notch and cannot be ignored.
