Explore the creative expression of font design

As written symbols for recording events, words have gradually developed into a language symbol system after evolving through different eras, accelerating the speed and efficiency of the spread of human civilization. As a very important design language in design, font design is not only a means of visual communication, but also an important means to build a brand image and convey personalized artistic style and the flavor of the times.
This offline event for the 15th anniversary of the "Asia Pacific Design Yearbook" held an academic exchange lecture with the theme of "Word Power - Exploring the Creative Expression of Font Design". Zhang Hao, Vice Chairman of Shenzhen Graphic Design Association, was invited as the academic host. Shenzhen Graphic Design Song Boyuan, chairman of the association, and Zhu Zhiwei, font art director of Hanyi Fonts, shared their views as keynote speakers. They conducted in-depth discussions on cutting-edge visual expression in font design and its future development from multiple perspectives, bringing new thinking about font design to the new generation of designers.

Before computers became commonplace, fonts had clear boundaries. Today, however, digital technology has broken down the boundaries of fonts. Digital technology makes font design, development, dissemination and application more and more convenient, but this does not mean that the threshold of the font industry has been lowered. On the contrary, the threshold of this industry will become higher and higher, because fonts are the carrier of words, and words are the carrier of words. As a carrier of culture, it is the primary task of fonts to maximize the social effectiveness of text. The development of society in the future will put forward higher requirements for fonts, and more fonts that are refined, easy to use and have profound connotations will be needed.
The development of Chinese characters has evolved from Oracle Bone Inscriptions, Maogong Tripod, Yishan Stele, Caoquan Stele and then to Jiucheng Palace. Its development continues to trend towards the rules of being easy to read, write and remember, in order to facilitate people to convey and obtain information quickly and effectively. Words are born out of use, fonts are inexhaustible because of use, and font design is people-oriented. My own type design experience is very simple and straightforward. The word "use-oriented" is unforgettable to me. My creations are entirely to meet the needs of users and solve practical problems, so my designs are mainly practical.
From the emergence and development of Song-style characters, the Western Han Dynasty's bamboo slips "Xiangli Shanjian" and the Western Han Dynasty's silk script "Yin Yang and Five Elements", to the Qing Dynasty's engraving of "Four Books and Chapters", it can be seen that the formation of Song-style characters was quickly carved during the engraving process Regular script results. Song-style characters formed a splendid art of calligraphy in the writing process. From writing to being a practical recording tool, people began to use tools to process words and spread information.
When I started designing the Hanyi Xuan Song font, I felt that I needed to ask myself three questions: First, why was Xuan Song designed?
