The desert has been there before, but the forest still prevailed.
The two photos show the same land, Saihanba, about 400 kilometers north of Beijing.
Saihanba was once an important part of the "Mulan Paddock", the royal hunting garden of the Qing Dynasty. Later, due to reclamation and extensive tree felling, it gradually degraded into a wasteland and sandy land. The trees fell down and the birds disappeared. Along with it, yellow sand covered the sky, and even the yellow sand flew up and spread to Beijing.
In the early 1960s, in order to change the severe situation of "sandstorms approaching Beijing", the country decided to build a large state-owned forest farm to restore vegetation and block sandstorms.
The soil in these places is only a few centimeters thick, which is equivalent to "planting trees on bluestone."

The proudly standing larch in the picture is called the tree of merit by the people of Saihanba. Back then, people met it in the depths of the uninhabited desert, which confirmed that Saihanba can plant trees and grow a large forest. belief.
Saihanba Mechanical Forest Farm was established in 1962. A period of time has passed, and the once deserted sandy land has transformed into a green ocean, becoming an important ecological barrier guarding Beijing and Tianjin.
Saihanba has not only become China's "example of ecological civilization construction", but the forest farm builders have also been awarded the "Champions of the Earth Award" by the United Nations Environment Program.
I can think of a hundred kinds of compliments, but none of them are as straightforward as this green forest.
