Use the TTEST function skillfully to calculate the T test

  • Picture and text skills
  • Case

Returns the probability associated with the Student's t-test. You can use the function TTEST to determine whether two samples are likely to come from two populations with the same mean.

Syntax
TTEST(array1,array2,tails,type)
Array1 first data set.
Array2 The second data set.
Tails indicates the tail of the distribution curve. If tails = 1, the function TTEST uses a one-tailed distribution. If tails = 2, the function TTEST uses a two-tailed distribution.
Type t test type.

Description

The tails and type parameters will be truncated.

If array1 and array2 have different numbers of data points and type = 1 (paired), TTEST returns the error value #N/A.

If tails or type is non-numeric, TTEST returns the #VALUE! error value.

If tails is not 1 or 2, TTEST returns the #NUM! error value.

TTEST computes a nonnegative t-statistic using the data in array1 and array2.

If tails=1, TTEST returns the probability of the higher value of the t-statistic, assuming array1 and array2 are samples from populations with the same mean.

Assuming "same population means", the value returned when tails=2 is twice the value returned when tails=1 and is consistent with the higher absolute value of the t-statistic

'sprobability.
