Slow down and wait for the flowers to bloom

Beautiful scenery needs to be appreciated slowly, good tea needs to be savored carefully, and beautiful things are always worth looking forward to. In the fall of the year before last, I participated in the first “National Training Plan (2019) Chinese Language Training for Rural Primary Schools” event in Xinye County, and a demonstration lesson I gave caused a stir.

The theme of this national training program is the exploration of reciting ancient Chinese poems in primary schools. I will give a recitation guidance class on the ancient poem "Night Mooring at Maple Bridge" to fifth-grade students. Because I teach sixth-grade Chinese, I am required to teach fifth-grade classes, not my own students and classes, so a small episode occurred before the class. I didn't try the courseware in advance, but I found that the PPT I made could not be played on the all-in-one machine in their class. The all-in-one machine in this class is different from that in other classes. I suddenly became nervous and quickly called the Chinese teacher of this class to come and help. After the teacher debugged it, although the PPT could be played, the audio and video in it could not be played normally. At this time, the back of the classroom was full of teachers who were listening to the class, and everyone was whispering. She pondered for a long time and finally debugged it before the class. At this moment, the stone in my heart was put down, because there were many people listening to the class this time, including leaders at all levels, experts and colleagues who are proficient in Chinese teaching, but I was so careless, which was really stressful.

Time passed by minute by minute, and I was not allowed to hesitate at all. When the class bell rang, I immediately adjusted myself and threw myself into the intense classroom teaching. I first build relationships with them and approach them: "Students, the teacher heard that our class has the best student discipline and the best classroom performance. Do you have the confidence to successfully teach this class with the teacher?" "Yes?" !” the students responded in unison. I smiled and continued to induce: "Awesome! Teachers like children who can think and answer questions proactively. Are you willing to be such a child?" "Yes!" The students answered in unison again. Because they know that the teacher wants everyone to answer like this, without using their brains to think at all. When I heard the students' answers, I realized that their thinking was heading in the intended direction. I felt at ease and started the formal class. In fact, I actually believed it when the kids said it casually! I am often "lied" by students in this way. Frequent conversations such as "Do you understand?" "I understand!" "Students, do you remember?" "Remember." are repeated every day. Now that I think about it carefully, they just habitually answer this way. Teachers must not take it seriously.

Next, the class progressed step by step under my guidance... I tried my best, sometimes chanting lightly, sometimes loudly and passionately. Everyone's eyes followed me closely, and I felt a sense of being paid close attention to. sense of accomplishment. Who knows, when students are encouraged to recite freely according to the recitation rules, the problem arises again!

Start a group discussion and try chanting. Everyone's interest was high and they started discussing it. I watched carefully, trying to find a special talent to show off. At this time, a tall boy came into my sight. He was chanting loudly to the students in his group and looked very active. During the report and presentation session, I first clicked on this boy: "This student, the teacher saw that what you just chanted was very good. Please come and show it to everyone!" Immediately, he took the lead in applauding. Under my kind gaze, he stood up slowly. Seeing his hesitation and lack of confidence, I couldn't help but be secretly surprised: "Oh no, I may have made a mistake!" But I still encouraged him: " Come on, kid, it’s okay, just try it boldly!” He reluctantly opened his mouth and said: “The moon is falling, crows are crying, and the sky is full of frost...” Oh my God, when I heard this, I couldn’t even read it. No, most of the pronunciations are wrong. It’s completely new and earthy Mandarin. I was really shocked! In order to test whether he really couldn't read, and to give myself a better way to go, I motioned for him to continue reading. His face turned red in a hurry, and he stuttered through the remaining three lines of the poem. , I was completely desperate, not a single word was in tune. I immediately realized that he might not have developed the habit of reading aloud in Mandarin. Despite this, I still said earnestly: "Child, it seems you need one-on-one tutoring! First listen to how the teacher reads." He really needed to correct his reading habits again, and then I demonstrated to him. Then continue the class.

There is no doubt that this class was a failure as a demonstration class. During the course evaluation, I sincerely made a profound reflection on the experts and teachers attending the class. Accidents before class can be avoided, and changes in the classroom are unpredictable. When facing such problems, we must have a normal mentality and be people-oriented, not just for acting. Unexpectedly, everyone spoke highly of this class and agreed that this is what a native classroom should be like, fully demonstrating the teacher's ability to control the classroom.

Yes, if a class is calm and smooth, and the problems are not exposed at all, then do we need to talk about it again? That kind of class just lets the students act out a play with you. Only when problems are exposed in the classroom and prove that we still need to work tirelessly can the value of teachers be demonstrated. Due to age characteristics, different family environments, primary school students have different perceptions of problems, and the speed of acceptance. After more than 20 years of hard work in small classes, I have learned to face different students. Wait and learn to listen. I will wait with full expectation, waiting for them to grow up, and for me to grow old.

Don't be in a hurry and appreciate the scenery along the way, which will make your journey in life more exciting.
