The Chenshan Botanical Garden site provided Shanghai with a large amount of mineral resources in the early days, so that the original style of the Chenshan area was almost destroyed. Today, when sustainable development has become a hot topic, the construction of high-quality botanical gardens has become an important manifestation of metropolitan civilization.

The meaning of the Chinese character "garden"

Chinese garden art has a long history. The Chinese character "Garden" is written in the seal script as shown below, which vividly reflects the spatial composition of the garden - that is, there are mountains, water, and trees in the garden, reflecting the harmonious relationship between man and nature.

The existing mountain texture is used to deeply carve it into the shape and artistic conception of Chinese landscape painting. At the same time, referring to the records of Jiaqing Mansion, we decided to focus on the "Ten Scenes" of Chenshan Mountain.

Functional Partition

Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden has sub-center exhibition areas, plant conservation areas, five continents botanical areas and peripheral buffer area Chenshan and other functional areas.

Central Exhibition Area 26 specialized gardens have been built, including mine gardens, rock and medicinal botanical gardens, among which the exhibition greenhouse is an important part of the entire botanical garden.

Plant Conservation Area is located in the northeast corner of the park. It is mainly composed of a series of modern greenhouses, which are used for the early conservation of most species of plants, as well as the protection, cultivation, and propagation of some rare plants. wait.

The Five Continents Flora Zone is actually a green ring on the periphery. It is shaped by the undulating topography of the green ring, forming annular belt-like terrain of different sizes.

Each section of the green ring is equipped with representative introduced plants from different geographical regions such as Europe, America and Asia, based on the climate and geographical environment similar to Shanghai.

Peripheral buffer zone is mainly some fields or natural woodlands, surrounding the outermost part of the entire botanical garden, isolating the botanical garden from the lost hustle and bustle, making the entire garden more artistic.

Mine Park

The most famous one in Chenshan Botanical Garden is the Mine Garden, which was designed by Professor Zhu Yufan from the School of Architecture of Tsinghua University and has won many awards.
